Also called an oscillating saw, the reciprocating saw performs just like a jigsaw. Contractors, remodelers and property owners use these saws for a wide range of reasons such as effective slicing through sheetrock, ply board, plumbing, and timber flooring. With regards to the cutting edge, these tools are strong enough to cut through nail-embedded material. They are not known for making good, precise cuts, however, so they should not be used where the cut will be noticeable in the completed job.
The Features
Milwaukee Cordless
They may be attached to a power cord or wireless, based on the design. They have a large, cutting blade that can be swapped out based on the type of objects being cut. These saws are developed to be operated with two hands and also have a back handle with which allows for easy use on most upright surfaces.
Different Types
Although it usually represents a highly effective, power tool such as the Sawzall, the phrase "reciprocating saw" can be used to represent any power operated saw that uses a back and forth movement while cutting. Scroll saws, jigsaws, and sabre saws, may also be regarded as a reciprocating saw. These tools are usually less highly effective than a common "cipro saw", but because of their portability and accuracy they are more appropriate for the small precise jobs.
Things To Consider
These tools are great pieces of equipment for doing challenging structure work such as making an opening in the ceiling, wall, or flooring, cutting through sheetrock or gutting a room. They are not the best saws for doing delicate or precise work though. When considering one, thought should be given to the need for capabilities such as multiple speeds, attached cords or wireless, easy blade change, and convenience of shoe modification.
Warning
A "cipro saw" is a highly powerful cutting instrument. The edge is incredibly sharp and can result in highly uncomfortable cuts if managed wrongly. Always dress in robust gloves, steel-toed boots and protective eyeglasses when handling a reciprocating saw. Always remove the saw from its electrical outlet before attempting to change the blade. Never try to cut any object when using only one hand to hold the saw. Lastly, always make sure the electrical current is turned off to any object you are attempting to cut through. You should now have a good general knowledge of the reciprocating saw, its uses, capabilities, and dangers, as well.
